This is going to be long, but there is a one sentence summary at the bottom if you are incapable of reading anything longer than a sentence.

Okay, this is all that needs to be said, plain and simple, this is looking at it from every possible way that it needs to be looked at.

First of all, in regards to people who say that Disney shouldn’t be allowed to fire her or that her personal life has nothing to do with it, you’re ridiculous. She signed a contract with them and by doing so she is a representation of what they are as a company and who/what they represent has a dramatic impact on their business and sales. You have every right to fire an employee who is misrepresenting your company, be it on company time or personal time. I can guarantee that somewhere in her contract issues like this were clearly stated. Is it fair? Not necessarily, but that is the way the system works. If you were an NBA player, for example, and Nike was one of your big sponsors but you were seen off the court in Adidas all the time, it would most likely be a breach of contract whether it is on the court or off. Big companies don’t pay their legal teams hundreds of thousands of dollars to write up contracts that don’t cover their company from any sort of negative effects, be it bad publicity from an employee on personal time or anything else. Another good example would be an elementary school teacher. If you were an elementary school teacher and your school district found pictures like these online, you would lose your job, no question about it. Its a breach of contract, plain and simple.

Now, from a personal stand-point, this goes out to all of you people who say that she is a horrible person, it isn’t a big deal. She is 18, so she is not breaking the law or doing anything legally volatile. Whether they were taken for her boyfriend or just because she was bored one day, it doesn’t matter. Taking pictures of yourself naked is not a crime nor should it be looked down upon. Hey look, she has a body, big deal? Sure, maybe its a social no-no, but big deal. For everyone saying, “She is human, therefore she makes mistakes,” you’re just as bad as everyone else. Taking the pictures wasn’t wrong or a “mistake” as you would like to call it. Saying that it was a mistake or that she fucked up or whatever is just saying that what she did was wrong. The only thing that was wrong about the entire situation was whoever leaked them if it wasn’t intentionally done to promotional reasons to boost her career. If she did not intent for them to be released to the public, whoever did it was wrong, yes, but her taking them was not. It was her choice to do whatever she wants with her body and there is nothing wrong with that.

For those of you saying this will “ruin her career” or “destroy her reputation”, you’re obviously not looking at the big picture of things. The only negative effect this will have on her career is that Disney will no longer use her for future shows or films at least for quite a while. Big deal? You are aware that there are other aspects to the entertainment industry than just Disney, right? Disney puts out a very small fraction of the films and television shows produced every year. Look at most movies produced today and what do you notice that they all have in common? Some sort of partial or full nudity. I don’t care if some psychotic killer is chasing after the main characters, they still find time to take their clothes off and hop into bed together. Who cares if some experimental creature escaped and is hunting you down in a locked down research facility, might as well strip and have sex before you die, right? Comedies use clips like these to provide crude humor because the general public seems to find nudity uncomfortable and therefore humorous. Disney is a large company but they only service a very small niche of the population as a vast majority of content that they produce is directly aimed at children ages 4-12. Sure, a small portion of their productions are aimed at teenagers and an even smaller percentage is aimed towards a general audience, but the majority of their work is focused on pre-teens and below. Vanessa is not going to be outcast and shunned from the entertainment industry because of this. If anything it opens up doors for her as probably 80%+ of movies produced every year have at least one nude or partially nude scene in them and companies are tired of paying body doubles to do scenes for the stars that they are already paying for the movies. Look at the trends that are starting to form. We are seeing less and less body doubles, more small to medium names headlining movies because they are more willing than big name stars to do scenes that contain nudity or extreme violence or language, etc. If she did release these pictures herself, all she did was open more doors. She was previously only seen as being cast in roles that were directed towards young children (( such as High School Musical )), now she is a possibility for any type of movie and focused to a general audience.

For those of you who are parents or who take the parenting stance of, “she is a poor role model because kids are now going to see this as okay and copy it”. Become fucking parents for once in your life, Christ. I am sick of parents always blaming what their kids did on what TV show or movie they were watching or what happened in a video game they were playing and I am sick of hearing people preach about how video games or movies or tv shows or music or whatever of violent of “naughty” nature is having a negative effect on our youth population. How about you teach your children the difference between real life and this make believe world that we call movies, television, music, video games, etc. Just because a movie star smokes doesn’t mean that your kids have to copy it. Teach them the difference between what you view as right and wrong. So Vanessa took nude pictures of herself for whatever reason, big deal. If you think that this is wrong and you don’t want your kids to do the same, teach them that! It’s sad how much our youth have changed over the last decade and the problem that is most readily apparently, yet most ignored, is poor parenting. Your average household doesn’t eat dinner as a family even twice a week. Your average family doesn’t go to movies or dinner or shopping or anything like that together even once a week. Kid’s are coming home to empty homes and spending 3-5 hours by themselves, unsupervised, while their parents are holding down jobs to get by. Yeah, inflation and the economy is a bitch. Yeah, its hard to make ends meet sometimes. But don’t try to censor the whole world and remove all forms of violence, sexuality, language, etc from any sort of entertainment. Merely teach your children the difference between fantasy and reality. Teach them that just because you shoot someone in a video game doesn’t mean that you shoot someone in real life. Teach them that just because someone in a movie has sex with a guy or girl they just met doesn’t mean that they should do the same thing in real life. Teach them that just because a celebrity, big or small, takes nude pictures of themselves doesn’t mean that they have to do the same thing. Teach your kids to be able to think for themselves. We live in a society where everyone does thinks “because he did it” or “because she did it”. Fucking sheep….

So, to summarize, we have a breach of contract, take pictures of yourself is your choice and not wrong whether they are nude or not, and be good parents.
