Part 1: Saturday With Models in Toronto

The continuation of my time at a model convention in Toronto.

You can read my first day in Toronto here.

Saturday, October 6, 2007

I wake up in my hotel to see one white eye and one bloodshot eye. The contact lens I used in my right eye had caused it to go pink. Maybe I shouldn’t have warn a 2-week contact lens for over 4 months.

I was a little freaked out. I thought, “Oh my God, what will the agents think?”

I realized that there was nothing I could do. If I had money to try out Clear eyes® I would, but I only had about $10 left for two days.

I took a shower, got dressed, and practiced my runway walk. Yes I know it sounds gay, but things change when you’re on stage in front of 300 people. Even walking becomes a problem.

I have about 30 minutes till my scheduled runway walk. I finish practicing my walk and head over to the hotel with the convention.

I arrive only to find out that they things are delayed. I’m scheduled to do a TV commercial first.

I chose to do a Winners commercial. Why? Cause it was the best of the other choices. The other choices were a Pepsi commercial, a cologne commercial, a financial commercial, or a Whopper commercial.

I get up on this small stage in front of a couple agents and other models. I wait for the camera man gives me the signal. He gives the signal and I say my first line and forget the rest.

An agent in the front row mentions a couple words from my next line. I pick it up from there and flow with the rest.

I’m done my commercial so I head to the ballroom for the runway walk.

I get into the ballroom only to find out the agents have taken a 15 to 30 minute break. Me and this other guy are just standing around. I tell him that we should practice.

We begin practicing our walk. It’s great cause we have the stage all to ourselves. After my third practice walk I notice that all these other guys are lining up to practice.

My wait time to practice walking went from 10 seconds to 10 minutes. I decide to forget practicing and do pushups to expel some of my nervous energy.

The agents decide that they have taken a long enough break and head back to their seats. I finish my pushups, ask this girl sitting down to watch my bag, and get in line to strut myself.

While waiting I chat with a couple girls in line. When my number is called I get on stage and walk my size 13 shoes up and down the stage.

I notice that the closer I come to the end of the stage the brighter the lights become. At the very end of the runway I am totally blind by the lights. I give my smile to the agents and slowly make my way back up the runway.

I get off the stage and return to the girl watching my bag. I chat her up a bit. She’s a mom of a daughter who’s going on the runway next.

I feel that things won’t go far with this mom so I leave with my bag.

I have a couple hours till the seminars. I’m feeling hungry so I head to Subway to get a veggie delite for $6.49.

I arrive at Subway to find some other models getting subs. I play the gay card and befriend them.

We get our subs and head back to the hotel.

One of the girls says we should head up to her room to eat. We all agree and head on up.

I’ll post part 2 of my Saturday in Toronto tomorrow.
