Sunday in Toronto With Models

Sunday, October 7, 2007

I wake up in this models room.

The sun is shining and I am starving.

I try and look around but have difficulty. It’s cause my eyes are dry as hel. I forgot to take my contact lenses out. I rub my eyes and I my vision gets back to normal.

There is a free buffet downstairs for all those participating in the convention.

I’m ready to stuff that food down like a fat kid on cake.

I leave the girl sleeping in her bed and head downstairs.

The majority of people are already eating and I cannot find a table. I notice that it’s not a buffet. Everyone is being served a brunch plate that consists of three strips of bacon, two sausages, some scrambled eggs, and home fries. At each table they are also served a plate of mixed breads and a plate of mixed fruit.

I go to table after table asking if there is room to sit. Each table tells me, “No.” I get tired of begging for a seat to eat. I walk over to a server with a food cart. I chat her up a bit.

I just want the fruit and bread plates.

I tell the cart lady that my table never got any fruit or bread. She apologizes and hands me a plate of each.

I also need a fork to eat the fruit. I ask the lady for a fork and get it.

I take my plates of food to the hotel lounge and pig out.

Models and agents look me at while I eat. I give them a warm smile as I stuff my face with more pineapple slices.

At this convention there are singers and musicians. They picked the best of the best to entertain us after the meal while we wait till agent interviews.

The entertainment is being held in the hotel ballroom. I head over and enjoy the show.

Overall it was pretty good. I was hoping for a couple rap battles but just got a mix of country and alternative music.

The entertainment finishes and it’s time for interviews.

I head back to my hotel room to get into dress pants and dress shirt. You got to dress to impress these agents.

I stuffed all my clothes into my bag so I spend the next half an hour steaming the wrinkles out.

I get my clothes on and head back to the convention.

To see the agents I have to wait in line for about an hour. I read Homer’s The Iliad while I wait.

As time ticks I get closer and closer to the front of the line.

45-minutes have gone by and I head to the first agent. This one is from Japan.

She’s looking for male models up to 6’. I’m 6’3’’ so that cancels me out. I decide to chat with her a bit about the modeling industry; what it takes to succeed in the industry, how to best present yourself to an agent, etc. The next agent opens up. I say, “Goodbye” to Japan and, “Hello” to New York.

There are about twenty agents that I talk with.

I ask one of the agents what I have to develop to look good on camera. He told me to get undressed and he’d show me.

I strip down to my Speedo and the agent takes some photos.

The agent compares my photos to current male models he represents.

I definitely need to build up my body to get camera friendly.

The overall consensus is that I need to build a bigger portfolio and put on about 10 to 20 pounds of lean muscle mass.

I leave the interviews with a bunch of contacts.

I meet up with a couple models I met earlier in the weekend. I give them hugs, get their MSN’s and wish them well.

I go back to my hotel, get all my stuff, and head home in time for a Thanksgiving meal.
