Do You Have Goals Or Objectives?
By V on Feb 3, 2008 in Dates, Quotes, Ramblings
I’m back from a weekend at the cottage. Not my cottage, but a friends. No electricity, just wilderness and privacy. Good times
I get e-mails discussing goals; how you make them and keep them.
People make goals all the time, but few keep them. Most people make goals like, “I want to lose weight” or “I want to travel more”. Pick-Up Artists make goals like “I want to be the best PUA ever” and “I want more women in my life”.
Having goals can be problematic from the start for certain people. Goals contain mainly of faith. Faith means having complete confidence someone or something else.
If goals distress you then what you need to have are objectives. An objective is an aim that you intend to be attained by you and no one else.
An example of an objective for a PUA would be, “I want a long term relationship with a female who is an HB9 by February 14, 2008. She must have the following qualities; can take a joke, non-materialistic, knows how to live life to the fullest, spiritual and adventurous. I will go out Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week between the hours of 10PM and 1AM to find this girl.”
An objective is all you, no one else.
Goals, to me, seem to be for those who seek others opinions. That is why some recommend informing others of goals. Doing that will give more incentive to accomplish them.
I tried that; figuring out goals and posting them for others to see. Needless to say it didn’t work for me.
I decided to forget goals and go with objectives; I got realistic, found out what I wanted, and realized that only I could accomplish them.
Objectives ended up working for me. If you have faith in others then goals are your thing, if not then go with objectives.

No electricity in a cabin in February? Isn’t Canada a frozen hellscape at this time of year?
There were fireplaces. How do you think people survived before electricity?

lol at wednesday. great post V
I personally find that I like having goals, which I then reinforce with objectives I do on a daily or weekly basis. I.e. this objective works towards this goal.
If I want to learn to play the violin then I make the goal of being a great violin player, but then make the objective of learning x number of songs per month, and even the sub-objective of practicing X amount of hours per week on a new song.
Basically, I just keep breaking down the size of my goals until they’re smaller, and smaller and more manageable. (But without destroying the over all goal in my mind) I really put conscious effort into this.
