“No, I’m Not Wearing Cologne”
By V on Feb 26, 2008 in Bars, Products, Ramblings
I am often asked what cologne I’m wearing. My reply is, “I’m not wearing cologne.” Why? Cause I don’t wear cologne.
The “nice” smell girls get is from either my shampoo or hair wax.
I do have cologne (Le Male, Acqua Di Gio, Emporio Armani, and Burberry Brit for Men), but I just don’t wear them. Though they do smell “nice” I find that it takes away from my “game”.
Cologne takes away from my game in three ways:
1. It gives me a headache
2. It can bring up memories, consciously or subconsciously, in girls
3. Most importantly, it takes away from my natural scent
Part of attraction is biological. So why on Earth would you cover up your natural scent with a cologne?
If you take showers and wear some antiperspirant then you don’t need cologne.
It’s sad how some guys think that “the best” cologne can get them the most ass. I highly doubt that P. Diddy wears around his cheap $30 cologne to parties.
Don’t get me wrong, smelling half-assed does have a factor when getting close to a girl, but I’ve met guys who’ve got ass without having a shower for a few days.
Keep the sprays to a minimum if you have the mindset that cologne is important, but remember that anything external has little to do with great game.

Hey, I totally agree about not wearing any cologne, or at least toning it down a lot. There’s been a lot of research done on the natural scent people give off and how its arousing.
On top of that… cologne often just makes you pass off as someone who’s trying too hard. If anything, maybe a SLIGHT very subtle smell would be alright, but as you say, you get it from hair products / deodorant.
I wear cologne because I like the smell. I have had many girls comment on it - a few lean in for a close smell and occasional kiss.
That said, a few of the naturals I know don’t wear cologne . Like you, they believe in the power of pheromones. One even wears his going out clothes for an hour or so before he has a shower — he wants a bit of sweat in there. Man musk he calls it.
American Scientific Mind had an article recently on the importance of pheromes and how they are transmitted via kissing too. Which is important as our senses are under developed.
That’s a great post, V. While I’m not a pickup artist (still a rAFC) I have found that I rarely use a cologne (unless a big party or event), and mostly I use a deodorant… and just a little… and I have gotten girls attracted to me despite of this…
Either way, it would be nice to me to try to wear one more often… perhaps it could be good for some type of “peacocking”…
Good point V… i never really wear one either… but i never really put much thought into it…
plus when i would put it on, i would always worry about being “that guy” whom everyone can smell 3 miles away
with that in mind, i think there is still room for some cologne in PUAs arsenal, a “little” splash of something “soft” can enhance your natural smell…
then again, i use body wash (not your usual bar soap) and it has a nice clean smell to it… so in essence you already have your own distinct smell by simply using a good quality body wash / shampoo
Try This…
I’m close with this girl I’ve been using as a pivot and before we’ve been going out she’ll dab some of her perfume on me. Keep in mind i’m still an AFC but beleive me this is like instant social proof…especially if its differant than what she is wearing.
Try it…a girl comments on it every other set you open. When they do just say something like “I’m not wearing anything” or just smell yourself, smile and say “Thank you” holding back a laugh.
